” And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.” – Acts 3:2 (ESV).
To be lame is to be unable to walk properly because of a problem with one’s feet or leg. The Bible in Acts 3: 1-10 tells us of the story of a man who was born lame and was carried daily to the gate of the temple to ask alms of them that entered the temple. This man had a problem with his feet and ankles right from his mother’s womb and could not walk by himself. This continued until the day he met Peter and John who prayed for him and commanded him to walk in the name of Jesus Christ. He received his healing immediately and began walking, leaping, and praising God!
Like this man, all of us were born spiritually lame in sin and iniquity. We were born with the nature of sin in us and had no power in ourselves to say No to the habit and lifestyle of sin. Even though we might not want to do them, we find ourselves again and again under the bondage of sin: adultery, fornication, sexual impurities, unclean thoughts, lust, anger, wrath, hatred, murder, envy, pride, drunkenness, unforgiveness, and such like. We were born slave to sin and cannot walk uprightly and righteously on our own.
“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” – Psalms 51:5 (ESV)
“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.” – Romans 8: 15-17 (ESV)
Also, like this lame man was carried daily to the gate of the temple, some of us have tried religion as a solution to this spiritual lameness of sin. Some go to religious gatherings, read religious books, pay tithe and offering, give alms to others, fast, pray, meditate, practice self-denial and self-discipline, do good to others all in a bid to find victory. While these things may help for sometimes, you soon find yourself back in sin. The reason is because practicing religion cannot deliver you from this lameness of sin but meeting the person of Jesus Christ who came to save us from sins.
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” – Matthew 1:21 (ESV)
This was what happened to that lame man at the Beautiful Gate. One day, he met Peter and John who introduced him to Jesus, and he got his healing through faith in Jesus’ name. He got His healing and started walking, jumping, and praising God. Likewise, you can also meet Jesus Christ today through this leaflet. He has been patiently waiting for you to come unto Him with your weights of sin and He promise to give you rest (Matthew 11:28-30). He came into the world to die for your sins and to set you free from this lameness of sin. He has seen your struggles and has been eager to help you.
All you need do is to call upon His name and invite Him into your heart. Confess your sins and iniquities and ask Him to forgive you. Tell Him about your struggles and inability to help yourself. Then confess Him as your Lord and Savior and believe in His power and ability to save you. Bible says anyone that call upon Jesus would be saved (Romans 10:13). He has saved many others and is ready to save you if you call unto Him. He will heal you of your spiritual lameness and help you walk victoriously all the days of your life! If you are also sick in any part of the body, He will heal you as you call upon Him in faith. Make this decision today and you will never remain the same.
